ISO 14001 Certification
The international standard for Environmental Management Systems, ISO 14001 certification
is becoming more frequently required by international customers. Margaret Staub, director
of EnviroGroup’s EMS group, has direct experience acquiring ISO 14001 certification
while she was the manager of a specialty metals operation in Colorado. She understands
the needs of industry and can help EnviroGroup clients achieve ISO 14001 certification
in a way that is practical and effective.

Expert Work Groups
EnviroGroup has been invited by EPA headquarters, EPA Region 8, and CDPHE to participate
in expert work groups addressing issues of national importance, including arsenic
contamination due to the historic use of pesticides and vapor intrusion due to solvents
in groundwater.

Risk Communication
EnviroGroup Limited professionals have over 10 years experience working with residential
communities, conducting extensive outdoor soil and indoor air sampling programs. We have
conducted numerous public meetings and presentations, and win the confidence of most
community members by explaining complex technical issues in a straightforward and objective
manner.
Our graphics and GIS staff prepare clear and attractive presentations, including animations
and three-dimensional images.
Working with public relations specialists, we participate in outreach programs, including
door-to-door contacts with local residents, easily understood fact sheets, and we
maintain information project websites, such as

Selected Project Descriptions
ASARCO Incorporated Corporate EMS
Ms. Staub worked with Asarco’s corporate environmental department on the review of corporate
level management system policies and procedures. Part of her responsibility was to insure
corporate-level procedures were effective and relevant at the operational level.
Third Party Audit, Confidential Client EMS
EnviroGroup was hired to conduct a comprehensive third party audit of a confidential
client’s corporate EH&S management system. The project not only provided the client
with a "fresh eyes" look at their management system, but also provided valuable feedback
on ways to enhance their system further reducing their environmental, health and safety
risks.
Globe Plant ISO 14001 Certification
Prior to joining EnviroGroup, Ms. Margaret Staub served as the plant manager at the
Asarco Globe Plant, where she developed and implemented a comprehensive environmental
management system. The system was certified to the ISO 14001 Standard and remains an
integral part of Asarco’s operations today.
Removal of Client from PRP list, RFIP NPL Site
EnviroGroup’s client was a major landowner and PRP at the Rocky Flats Industrial Park
NPL site in Jefferson County. We successfully demonstrated to EPA and the other PRPs
that elevated metals concentrations in wells at the property were due to soil particles
in turbid samples, and not groundwater contamination. As a result, EPA removed our
client from the PRP list.
Collaborative Process, BP Amoco and WDEQ
The Wyoming DEQ has retained EnviroGroup to provide expert review of work plans, designs,
and monitoring plans for the investigation and remediation of petroleum and metals in
groundwater, soils, and sediment at the former BP Amoco Refinery in Casper. EnviroGroup
has earned the praise of both BP and DEQ for its practical and objective approach to
complex scientific and engineering issues.
Community Relations, Redfield Site
EnviroGroup has provided community relations support at a vapor intrusion site in
Denver for over 4 years. Over 760 residential homes, condominiums, and apartments
have been tested for chlorinated solvents in indoor air, and over 360 homes have been
mitigated by venting systems. EnviroGroup provides regular public presentations, helps
prepare fact sheets for public dissemination, and maintains a website to provide the
public updated information on the project. Our professional staff interacts with
community members every day and helps maintain community support for the work in progress.
Community Relations, Globe Plant Site
EnviroGroup has collected soil samples from over 1000 residential and commercial
properties at the ASARCO Globe Plant site, including both residential and commercial
properties. Our staff has made numerous public presentations over the past decade,
obtained access from individual property owners, and helped ASARCO maintain
community support. |
