EPA Releases Final Health Assessment for TCE to IRIS
|
|
In September 2011, EPA released the final health assessment for trichloroethylene (TCE) to the Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS) database. The final assessment characterizes the chemical as carcinogenic to humans and as a human noncancer health hazard.

EPA releases draft toxicological review of 1,4-dioxane
|
|
In late August, the EPA released a draft toxicological review of 1,4-dioxane in support of information on IRIS to the Federal Register.

EPA OUST Releases Petroleum Vapor Intrusion Document
|
|
In September the EPA Office of Underground Storage Tanks (OUST) released a document entitled Petroleum Hydrocarbons and Chlorinated Hydrocarbons Differ In Their Potential For Vapor Intrusion. This document discusses the role of aerobic biodegradation in petroleum hydrocarbon vapor intrusion.

Wisconsin Issues Vapor Intrusion Guidance
|
|
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has issued Vapor Intrusion Guidance to be used at remediation and redevelopment sites in the state.

California DTSC Releases Two Revised Vapor Intrusion Guidance Documents
|
|
The California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) has recently released two newly revised vapor intrusion guidance documents; final VI guidance and a VI Mitigation Advisory document.

In addition, DTSC intends to complete a Vapor Intrusion Public Participation Advisory and revised Active Soil Gas Investigation Advisory by year-end.

AEHS Conference in San Diego, March 2012
|
|
The annual AEHS conference will take place in San Diego March 19-22. An EPA workshop on vapor intrusion will provide updates on the status of the revised Vapor Intrusion Guidance. Several technical sessions on vapor intrusion will also be held. The preliminary program is expected this month.

Symposium on Redevelopment of Manufactured Gas Plant Sites, Chicago, March 2012
|

The Fourth International Symposium and Exhibition on Redevelopment of Manufactured Gas Plant Sites (MGP 2012) will be held in Chicago, Illinois on March 27-30, 2012. MGP 2012 will focus on how the remediation and redevelopment of MGPs is taking place today.

ASTM Releases Standard Guide for Identifying and Complying with Continuing Obligations
|
|
ASTM recently released ASTM E2790-11 - Standard Guide for Identifying and Complying with Continuing Obligations. This guide is intended to supplement ASTM E1527-05 (the Phase 1 ESA Standard). This guide focuses only on certain continuing obligation pertaining to land use restrictions, institutional controls, and taking responsible steps with respect to releases of chemicals of concern.
