AEHS West Coast Conference
|
|
The Association for Environmental Health and
Sciences is holding its 18th Annual AEHS Meeting
and West Coast Conference in San Diego, CA on
March 10-13, 2008. A full day of vapor intrusion
presentations is scheduled for Wednesday, March

EPA National Stakeholders Forum on Vapor Intrusion
|
|
In conjunction with the AEHS West Coast Conference
EPA will be holding a three hour pilot stakeholder's
forum on vapor intrusion on March 12. Stakeholders
include people whose homes, businesses, or
schools have been investigated or identified as being
candidates for vapor intrusion mitigation. At the forum
EPA will be seeking suggestions for improving its
approach to addressing vapor intrusion issues. An all
day specialty seminar on the USEPA/ITRC Vapor
Intrusion Guidance Update is also scheduled on
Thursday, March 13. Drafts of two technical papers
will be discussed at this seminar: EPA's National
Vapor Intrusion (Attenuation) Database
and "Background" Levels of Contaminant Vapors in
Non-Impacted Buildings.
Information on the forum and workshop is available at:

Colorado Petroleum Hydrocarbon VI Guidance Document
|
|
On December 11, 2007 the Division of Oil and Public
Safety of the Colorado Department of Labor and
Employment issued its Petroleum Hydrocarbon Vapor
Intrusion Guidance Document. This document
describes how to assess the vapor intrusion pathway
and is intended to be used in conjunction with the
Petroleum Storage Tank Owner/Operator Guidance
Document. The document is available at:

AFCEE Technology Transfer Workshop
|
|
The Air Force Center for Engineering and the
Environment will be hosting a technology transfer
workshop on March 25-28 in San Antonio, TX. The
workshop is open to DOD managers, academia, and
state and federal regulators. Industry attendance is
limited to current AFCEE contractors, two individuals
per firm. On Thursday March 28 there is an all day
session on vapor intrusion, including a presentation
by Dave Folkes of EnviroGroup on mitigation
strategies for buildings, bases, and other large
complexes. Information on the workshop can be
obtained at:

Battelle Conference on Remediation of Chlorinated and Recalcitrant Compounds
|
|
Battelle will be hosting the Sixth International
Conference on Remediation of Chlorinated and
Recalcitrant Compounds on May 19-22, 2008 in
Monterey, CA, including a session on vapor intrusion
mitigation. ITRC will be giving a half day short course
on vapor intrusion investigation and mitigation on
Sunday May 18 - Dave Folkes of EnviroGroup will be

On Thursday, June 5, there will be a half day
workshop on Recent Developments in Vapor
Intrusion. Dave Folkes of EnviroGroup, one of the
invited speakers, will speak on the new (expected to
be published late February 2008) ASTM standard on
the evaluation of vapor intrusion during real estate
transactions. A listing of the presentations at the

California Brownfields Bill
|
|
A bill, AB 422, has been introduced into the California
Senate which would require that brownfields cleanups
involving volatile organic compound releases include
an assessment of the vapor intrusion pathway. The
bill would amend the Carpenter-Presley-Tanner
Hazardous Substance Account Act (California
Superfund Act). More information can be found at:

New ASTM Vapor Intrusion Standard (E2600)
|
|
ASTM expects to publish its new "Standard Practice for
Assessment of Vapor Intrusion into Structures on
Property Involved in Real Estate Transactions" later
this month. The standard will complement (and not
replace) the existing standard for conducting Phase 1
environmental site assessments (ASTM E-1527). The
new vapor intrusion standard will provide a tiered
approach to evaluating and, if necessary, mitigating
vapor intrusion impacts, with a focus on screening out
properties without significant risk of vapor intrusion
early in the process, in many cases based on the
same information collected during a Phase 1. Dave
Folkes of EnviroGroup co-chaired one of the work
groups that helped develop the standard.
We will issue a special edition of this newsletter when
the ASTM vapor intrusion standard becomes available.
